Incoming Gross Square Footage Across the United States
Self-storage growth frequently follows population; perhaps that’s why Florida, Texas, and California are expected to add the most self-storage square footage through 2026, according to a TractIQ analysis. They’re the only three states expected to add 10 million square feet or more over the next five years.
Florida, which has been one of the fastest-growing states in the nation over the past generation, is expected to add 16.1 million square feet to its current 145.8 million square feet of storage space. Texas should add 14.5 million square feet to its current 258.3 million (the most in the nation), and California will add 13 million square feet to its current 225.6 million square feet of self-storage.
